Where are the best schools in Austin TX?
I've made interactive Google Maps below to illustrate.

The map above shows all the Austin Area Elementary Schools, including Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Westlake, Leander, Lake Travis and Dripping Springs. The markers indicate how well each school performed on the TAKS test for the 2008-2009 school year.
Red = 2008-2009 Exemplary,
Green = 2008-2009 Recognized,
Blue = 2008-2009 Acceptable,
Yellow = 2008-2009 Unacceptable

For what it's worth, I don't believe you can judge a school just by the TAKS test. Many schools that have an Acceptable or even Unacceptable rating are great schools with dedicated teachers & staff, an involved community and challenging academics - but they have a larger ESL student body that may not do as well on standardized tests. Even with most of the students passing the TAKS with high marks, the whole school will get the rating that fits all of the students. In 2009 they've changed the ratings system to measure growth from year to year, resulting in much better ratings for our area schools.
It pays to do your homework and talk to as many people as possible about your potential schools. I do get quite a few emails asking what I think about "X" school, and to be honest, I don't know that much more than what I'm posting here. Talk to realtors, go on chat boards, or find sites that let parents voice their opinions on schools. I've listed some in my links section.
